Training
Services
Short-term training courses are offered to individuals
or identified target groups, either on request
or as a component of a research project.
The Institute, through the Technical Research
Divisions and individual research and technical
staff, offered training to individuals, groups,
NGO’s and students of the Universities and
Polytechnics as follows:
- Three farmer groups under the ‘SureFish’
Project at Aglor and Fiaxor in the Volta Region
and ‘Sustainable Aquaculture’ at
Dodi Asantekrom as well as a farmer each from
Kumasi and ‘Growth’, an NGO in Ada,
were trained in various aspects of fish farming
including fish handling, fingerling transport,
feed preparation, fish feeding and harvesting
techniques, among others,
- Three Ph.D. students from Nigeria, France
and Germany were given practical training in
various aspects of Fisheries and Aquaculture,
- Students from Accra Polytechnic were trained
in basic analytical techniques particularly
separation techniques and gas chromatography
whilst some undergraduate and postgraduate students
from the Universities were assisted and supervised
in their project work at the Institute,
- A number of research scientists
also undertook part-time teaching and acted
as external assessors in various universities
in the country.
